About Us

The Green Meeting Industry Council is a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization. The Council is a membership-based professional organization which provides educational resources to planners, suppliers, and venues seeking to meet the ever-rising standards consumers set for sustainable meetings.

The Green Meeting Industry Council promotes green practices globally by offering educational programs in the form of training workshops and online resources. The Council is in the process of partnering with educational institutions to develop an accredited curriculum at the university level for green meetings.

The Green Meeting Industry Council serves as an informational resource to our members. Council board members are involved in a network expanding from North America to raise awareness and develop practices for green meetings.

The Green Meeting Industry Council is partnering to support and develop environmentally responsible certification schemes for a variety of meeting industry components.

Mission:

The Council seeks to transform the global meetings industry through sustainable practices which incorporate environmental considerations throughout all stages of a meeting in order to minimize the negative impact on the environment. The Council will promote environmentally responsible strategies through the collaborative efforts of meeting industry stakeholders, balancing economic, environmental, and community objectives. Your support is an integral component of our success.
Vision

According to the Green Meeting Industry Council a green meeting incorporates environmental considerations throughout all stages of the meeting in order to minimize the negative impact on the environment.

By 2020, GMIC envisions a transformed meeting and event industry, driving towards sustainability which:

  • Achieves strategic goals that serve the economic, environmental, and social interests of all stakeholders.
  • Incorporates the principles of sustainability as standard operating practice
  • Integrates international sustainability standards into its management, organization and reporting
  • Impacts positively on the local and global society through diversity and inclusivity
  • Promotes health, wellbeing, creativity and business effectiveness

To help move closer to this vision the Green Meeting Industry Council is working to provide meeting professionals with resources, education, and certification opportunities.
